Bradley got 6 job offers within weeks of graduating Sabio
Bradley explains how the tech world is full of opportunity. In fact, he’s somewhat of a miracle when it comes to job offers. He received 6 within the first few weeks after graduating from Sabio.
Not all students will have this level of catch. In fact, most will take some of the first offers that meet their salary requirements, but Bradley is a living example that you can and should be choosy. “Honestly, like I'm having interviews rolling. I'm in final stages for interviews for multiple different types of jobs. And so they know that, they want to keep you engaged with their company.”
Bradley is a former tank mechanic for the US military who went into construction after his service. At the same time, he was studying to become a civil engineer. But that dangling carrot before him wasn’t enticing enough, being expected to earn $60k for an entry level position. So he took to Facebook and asked if anyone knew a way to break into tech without a degree. A Sabio alumni happened to chime in and the rest is history.
Although he did the 17-week program, it was not exactly smooth sailing. “The first thing I noticed with Sabio is that it's kind of like trying to drink from a fire hydrant. It's a lot of information. You kind of need to take what you can get and then figure it out as you go.” To cope with the onslaught of information, Bradley pulled from his prior experience in learning Spanish, applying his technique of constant immersion. “Even if you don't understand what it says [the code], by staring at it, you're going to start being able to pick out pieces. It's going to start making sense.
His aggressiveness when it comes to the job application process is unparalleled among Sabio alumni. As he says, he would be constantly on his phone, applying on Indeed whenever he had downtime. “I was in bed relaxing, watching TV. I always had indeed on my phone, I was applying.”
The job he has now is an 80k-a-year fully remote job. He chose that from a range of 6 offers that went from 60k-a-year to $103k-a-year. What made him choose the middle option was that it was fully remote. While he enjoys his work there as a full stack engineer, he can’t shake the job hunting habit. He has an average of two job interviews a week, which in his words, is his recession insurance policy.
